A ruling given by an appellate court in Washington states that Betcha.com is not illegal as it did not violate any state gambling laws in their operations. Betcha.com is for gamblers who want to place bets, but against other gamblers, not against the house. The ruling states “Because Betcha.com customers agreed in advance that participants were not required to pay their losses, Betcha.com was not engaged in ‘gambling’”.
Online gambling operators are now heading further east and including the Balkans in their sights. If you go to a massage parlour in Malayia you may be in for a shock, or not! It is common knowledge that these businesses all over the world are just fronts for prostitution. However, Malayian massage parlours have gone one better. Some provide not only an illegal prostitution service, but also online gambling for their clients. In fact, online gambling is very often proving to be more popular than sex!
Am I the only one who is totally confused when reading about government policies regulating online gambling in the USA? There are rules for this, systems for that, committees for the other. Now a new bill is being introduced by Barney Frank, a leading US Democrat (here come those politics again) to get the necessary authorities to agree on what can and cannot be played online. The UK is covered by the Gambling Act 2005 where online gambling sites are regulated and taxed and abide by the legislation. This gives the Treasury an income and players the security of not being conned by bogus sites. Sounds easy.
